New MicaCraft Project!

Hi! It’s me, Julie here!  Sue has given me a new challenge to try and create one new sample every week.  Well, I took it up and want to share my first project with you.  I began with a round Satin Mache Box.  Materials used: One sheet of MicaCraft, a Round Satin Mache Box, Perfect Pigments – Black and Indian Red, Large Mica Rings, Wooden Knobs (for the feet and top), Mica D’Lights – Copper, Styl’ine Stickers (Black Dragonflies, just for the dots), Great Tape, and Perfect Paper Adhesive – Gloss.

This really was a very simple project. First I covered the entire box with a thin coat of Perfect Paper Adhesive. It acts a primer and seals the paper surface.  When that dried, I painted it using Perfect Pigment – Indian Red.  I used two coats. Let that dry. Easy so far!

Then I cut several strips of MicaCraft on my cutting board. I made them all different widths and lengths. Next, I covered the entire lid of the box with Great Tape. I pieced together my MicaCraft Strips, over the Great Tape (making sure to leave little gaps between the strips for Mica D’Light Glitter). Cover the entire lid with MicaCraft strips.  Next,  fill in the leftover sticky areas and side of the lid by sprinkling on Mica D’Lights – Copper. Brush off excess.

Now peel off the dots and circles from the Black Dragonflies Styl’ines, and place them on all the corners of the MicaCraft strips.  (I also used these round stickers on the bottom half of the box, and glued Copper D’lights on some of them). Then I applied a very, very generous coat of Perfect Paper Adhesive – Gloss onto the decorated lid and let it dry over night.

The next day I painted 4 smaller knobs, and 1 large knob black for the feet and lid topper.  I also glued together 4 Large Mica Rings and a black rubber washer, assembling the pieces together with PPA – Gloss. While that dried, I drilled a hole in the center of the lid, and then using a screw attach the decorative knob.   Attach the feet with both PPA and hot glue to make them very secure, or screw them from the inside. If you do that, then cover the bottom with a piece of felt, which will cover the screwheads.

Here are just a few other projects we’ve made using MicaCraft:

Leave comments on projects that you would like to see! Who knows maybe that will be my inspiration for a blog entry next week! Enjoy! – Julie
